Construction Maintenance Framework, Drax Power Ltd

Challenge:

Drax Power Ltd is the largest power plant in the UK and Europe’s single largest decarbonisation programme. In 2015, it was set to achieve a reduction in CO2 emissions of 12m tonnes, the equivalent to removing 10% of UK cars from the road. Located near Selby, the six unit coal and biomass power station supplies 7-8% of the UK’s energy and the firm was looking for a responsive, multi-disciplined maintenance and construction partner to carry out a range of day works at the high security plant.

Development:

Sewell Construction bid for and successfully won the framework which is expected to result in more than 1,000 orders per year.

Delivery:

The civils and building repair work includes a wide range of activity, from joinery and decoration, to road repairs and cooling tower refurbishments. In addition to the core works, a significant number of structural repair works are to be carried out. Recent work includes installing a new yard and drainage, refurbishing the toilet block, and forming a new opening and installing a roller shutter on site.

Results:

As part of the Framework agreement, we’ve TUPE’d seven full time employees and provide them with lots of support to ensure the smooth transfer into Sewell Construction.  The work is ongoing, with regular improvements made across the site.
