Work has begun on a £4.1 million extension and refurbishment of a hub and library in the heart of a Yorkshire community.
Sewell Construction has been appointed by City of York Council to carry out the 45-week project at Burnholme Community Hub and Library in the Heworth area of York.
New community hall, library, cafe and nursery space will be provided on the former college site, alongside recording space for Tang Hall SMART, a community music group which also works with disadvantaged groups across the wider York area.
Partners and local schools joined Sewell in November to mark the next construction milestone in the development, by signing the steel frame of the building.
The concrete floors have been poured to the ground floor and the first floor. The metal sheeting is currently being installed to the new rood and the re-roofing work is nearing completion on the main existing building.
The site is bordered by two schools, therefore careful consideration have been made for deliveries on site during busy school drop off and pick up times.
The development is due to be completed in May 2018.
