Work is taking place on a £4.1 million extension and refurbishment of a hub and library in the heart of a Yorkshire community.
Sewell Construction has been appointed by City of York Council to carry out the 45-week project at Burnholme Community Hub and Library in the Heworth area of York.
New community hall, library, cafe and nursery space will be provided on the former college site, alongside recording space for Tang Hall SMART, a community music group which also works with disadvantaged groups across the wider York area.
Partners and local schools joined Sewell in November 2017 to mark the next construction milestone in the development, by signing the steel frame of the building.
The refurbished hub will receive a green makeover, paving the way for a greater sustainable future, with 24 species of wildflower to be installed on part of the green roof and 60 solar PV panels installed on the roof.
The site is bordered by two schools, therefore careful consideration have been made for deliveries on site during busy school drop off and pick up times.
The development is due to be completed in May 2018.
