The only way is up: Wakefield site team complete Three Peak Challenge in support of local charity neighbour
Ten of Sewell Construction’s Wakefield site team completed the Three Peak Challenge this weekend in support of site neighbours, Spectrum People.
Spectrum People support vulnerable adults across Wakefield, with over 940 people engaging with the charity in various activities on a weekly basis. The charity’s oldest beneficiary is over 90.
Bridget Gill, Charity Manager at Spectrum People said;
“Spectrum People salutes the amazing team led by Jon from Sewell Construction, on their Yorkshire Three Peaks triumph.
“The funding they raised for our charity will make such a difference – we are truly humbled to be presented with such a significant cheque. It was worth the blisters!”
The site team have been working with Spectrum People on several projects since starting on site last year.
Project Manager Jon Webster commented;
“We pride ourselves on getting to know our neighbours on any Sewell Construction project, and we were particularly interested in working with Spectrum after seeing the great work they do within the community.
“Charity Manager Bridget is very well-connected within the vicinity, and so we are always looking for ways to further our support and build that relationship with the people who we see day-in, day-out around the site – especially when we there for such a significant amount of time.
“Partaking in the Three Peaks Challenge is just another way we can show our support to Spectrum for all their amazing work they do not just around the site, but across Wakefield.
“I would just like to say a huge well done to everyone who took part in the challenge, powering through despite poor weather conditions and a 6-mile detour, the team still managed to cross the finish line in under twelve hours. I am so proud of what everyone has achieved!
“I would also like to thank everyone who has donated – we couldn’t have done it without your dedicated support and words of encouragement.”
Through Sewell Construction’s relationship with Bridget alone, the team are currently refurbishing the adjacent Sea Cadet’s base, whilst also providing site tours to individuals on the Spectrum programme to better their understanding of the Construction industry and maybe even inspire them in their own education and training.
Other community projects include working with Appletree Gardens – a community garden and allotment where the site team have donated timber to upcycle into raised flower beds, and stone to surround the pond area.
