STEAM Studios webinar
Constructing Excellence Yorkshire and Humber and Sewell Group are hosting a webinar on 27 November exploring the transformation of Hull’s former Central Fire Station into the STEAM Studios, a sustainable centre for creativity at Ron Dearing University Technical College – a local project that’s now getting interest at a national level.
We’ll explore how this project found solutions for two of the education sector’s main challenges – increasing capacity and creating long-term sustainability.
Together, we’ll discover the new approaches this project took, swapping short-term thinking and ‘eco-bling’ for long term gains on the road to net zero.
Sewell Group’s retrofit expert Steve Dam will take you through the process that brought the building back to life, where you’ll learn:
- The challenges involved in converting a heritage building
- Why reusing existing buildings just makes sense
- The major interventions we made to improve the fabric of the building
- how the building was futureproofed to 2050, making it connection-ready for the district heating network
- How students were involved throughout the process, with the project now being integrated into the UTC’s curriculum
- Why we need to develop green skills for future generations
