Centre of Excellence, York City Council

New development

Work is underway to create a UK first in Yorkshire.

Sewell Construction is carrying out two new projects in York area simultaneously, including a UK first to create a centre for children with disabilities and their families, alongside the redevelopment and extension to the existing Independent Living facilities.

This will be Sewell Construction’s third UK first project, following the Jean Bishop Integrated Care Centre and Victoria Dock Primary School.

Work started in June on the £4.4 million Centre of Excellence on the site of Hob Moor Community Primary Academy in Acomb, York.

At the same time, work began on refurbishing, remodelling and extending Lincoln Court, an assisted living facility for the elderly, on the same site in a separate £4 million scheme.

Working on behalf of City of York Council, in particular, the local authority’s Children’s Services Department and Housing and Adult Social Care Directorate, the latest projects come after Sewell Construction completed the Centre @ Burnholme, a community hub in the Heworth area of York.

Whilst working on site, the team have been speaking to Hob Moor pupils about staying safe on a building site and giving them an insight into the site next door.
