Reducing response time on the Humber

Sewell Group has recently completed the expansion of Humber Rescues’ boathouse, which has helped to reduce response time by up to five minutes.

The charity appointed Sewell’s Construction Services Division to carry out the minor works to their current boathouse. Dave Roberts, Founding Member of the charity said:

“It takes a good ten minutes to hook the boat up to the tractor, so having it already attached in the boathouse, ready to roll, will really help. Ten minutes is a long time when it comes to a rescue. It could be the difference between life and death. We approached Sewell as we were aware of their proven track record of delivering projects working in and around an operational facility. That was imperative for us, that we could still get the boat out if we needed to during the work; we’re really pleased with the end result.”

Sewell Construction Services carry out refurbishment, maintenance and improvements works up to the value of £1m. Carl Sarel, Sewell Construction Services said:

“We value the work of local organisations and will do our upmost to support them. Humber Rescue is a local voluntary organisation that saves lives, imperative for users of the River Humber. When they informed us of their plans for the boathouse extension we were keen to work with them to ensure they remained operational during the improvement works, it was a big responsibility and we’re pleased we were able to deliver.”

Humber Rescue, formed in the 1980’s, has a team of 18 volunteers that provide a fast response across the Humber Estuary 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They rely heavily on the support of local businesses and the public to remain operational.
