Works begin to modernise The Edge at the University of Leeds

Sewell Construction have started works on a fitness suite and spin studio refurbishment at The Edge, University of Leeds. This is a major improvement for the facility, positioning it as one of the premier health and wellbeing centres in the city.

The team are proud to be working with Sport & Physical Activity (SPA) on its second project this summer. The first, Bodington Football Hub, is well underway, with the countdown to completion fast approaching.

Gareth Dickson, Assistant Head of Sport & Physical Activity at the University of Leeds, said:

“We are delighted to have commenced a programme of work with Sewell Construction to completely refurbish the gym and spin space. This work will provide a modern, inspiring exercise environment through new flooring, lighting, decoration and AV so we stand out from the crowd.

“The demands of fitness users have changed over the last decade with a movement away from using cardiovascular machines towards strength and functional equipment. The Edge had to respond to that changing climate by updating its mix of equipment.”

Jon Webster, Site Manager for Sewell Construction said;

“We’re proud to play a part in this development, which will help improve leisure facilities for staff and students at the University of Leeds, as well as the wider community.

“As with all our schemes, sustainability and carbon impact are high on our agenda, and this project marks the start of a new relationship with Go Green Waste Management, who will support our site team in ensuring that any waste from site is disposed of in a responsible way. Across all our sites we strive for 96% being diverted from landfill and we hope this will continue to be improved even further.

“We look forward to working even more closely with the University throughout this project, and beyond.”
